ICA / PIP celebration event

Join us at the ICA Studio for a celebration event to mark the culmination of the ICA Creative Workshops in partnership with PIP (Pursuing Independent Paths).  As part of the ICA’s Learning programme artists Lucia Massari, Merel Karhof, Bethan Wood and Fabien Cappello have been working for the last 8 months to deliver weekly creative workshops to students supported by PIP. These workshops were designed to give students the opportunity to use their creativity and engage with contemporary practice in a playful way.  The group undertook research and practice that address their daily learning environment and made objects to use and enjoy at the PIP premises. The outcomes of the project will be launched at the ICA including a publication designed by the artists in collaboration with the students.  PIP is a Westminster-based charity that exists to extend choice and opportunities for young adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues, and have been delivering outcomes in partnership with the ICA since 2008.  ICA Creative Workshops is supported by Westminster City Council.

Industrious|Artefacts

The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen will present the exhibition Industrious|Artefacts, the evolution of crafts from the end of May 2011 onwards. The exhibition contains presentations in the Indoor Museum and the Outdoor Museum and will show the evolution of crafts before and after the closing of the Zuiderzee (1932) in relation to current developments in international and Dutch design and small-scale production (industries). The well-known Dutch designer Jurgen Bey and architect Rianne Makkink are the curators of this exhibition.

Away from any economic and time pressuring model to follow, Fabien Cappello, Merel Karhof, Lucia Massari and Bethan Laura Wood, took the time of their residency program at the ‘Foundazione claudio Buziol’ to develop a series of work that relate to their experience and personal research in the 'visionary' city of Venice. They traded the tube for the gondola, knocked on doors of Artisans and locals in order to investigate the values, and question the future of this specific context.

YCN presents Wind Knitting Factory @ the rooftop of YCN the machine knits a long scarf which enters the gallery trough the window. Every now and than the material is harvested, cut into scarves, which are sold in the Gallery.
