Foundation Claudio Buziol presents ‘Venice 2132’ @ Salone del Mobile Milan

Away from any economic and time pressuring model to follow, Fabien Cappello, Merel Karhof, Lucia Massari and Bethan Laura Wood, took the time of their residency program at the ‘Foundazione claudio Buziol’ to develop a series of work that relate to their experience and personal research in the 'visionary' city of Venice. They traded the tube for the gondola, knocked on doors of Artisans and locals in order to investigate the values, and question the future of this specific context.

YCN presents Wind Knitting Factory @ the rooftop of YCN the machine knits a long scarf which enters the gallery trough the window. Every now and than the material is harvested, cut into scarves, which are sold in the Gallery.

SHOW RCA Wind Knitting Factory

From June 26th until July 5th Wind Knitting Factory will be shown on the façade of the Royal College of Art. Along the façade the knitwear moves slowly trough the window into the gallery, fast at hi wind speed, slow when there is not a lot of wind. The knitted material will be harvested from time to time, and rounded of in individually labelled scarves. The labels will tell you in how much time the scarves are made and on which day. They are sold in the by the Studio Designed Wind Knitting Shop, a shop which exists on the border between the private and the public space.

Videoshoot Wind Knitting Machine

On a balcony in front of South-Kensington Station we shot in collaboration with Emiel Steenhuizen the Video of Wind Knitting Machine. It was a windy day with every so often a wind speed of 15 km/u. We knitted around 6 meters of blue tinted scarf in more or less 9 hours.

Interim show RCA, 2008

The first brief of this year is in collaboration with an architect group. We work on a project that takes place in and around the library of Barking, which is a suburb of London.

For this project I created an alter ego. I was interested to see if I act/design different if I have an alter ego.
As my created alter ego ‘The Mould Maker’ I visited Barking. From his point of view I looked at the world, and got inspired by all the moulded Victorian patternations in the city.
I created my own ‘mobile pattern copy workshop’. A bag that contains all the tools I need to make copies in the street. The copied patterns are for instance moulded on a chair for the Barking Library. But the ‘workshop’ gives me also the opportunity to collect lots of patterns, which can be deployed in other products for Barking.
